Northern Soul is a webzine comprising more than 50 writers whose collective pedigree includes The Times, The Guardian, The Big Issue in the North, the BBC, The Daily Telegraph, The Mail on Sunday, The Independent, Manchester Evening News and The Yorkshire Post, to name a few publications. Our goal is to create content that does justice to where we live and to the people who live here. As well as top notch interviewers, photographers and broadcast journalists, we have specialist columnists with individual passions including cycling, cooking, gardening, opera and poetry.

We believe in talking up to people, not down to them, and we are mustard keen to provide stimulating articles about everything from arts, culture and small businesses, to entrepreneurs, architecture and literature. Our weekly Podcast is a magnificent melting pot of exclusive interviews with up-and-coming and established bands as well as 45 minutes of great tunes. And our exclusive photographs show the best sides of the great and the good in the North of England.

In May 2013, all we had was a belief that there was a demand for great writing and innovative articles about the North of England. Two years on and we have been proved right. In just two years we have achieved more than we’d hoped for:

** we’ve grown from a team of two to 50

** we’ve doubled our monthly readership numbers

** our page views have hit six figures

** we’ve received coverage in the national media including the BBC and The Guardian

** we’ve built up a global readership

** we’ve appointed, among others, a Marketing and Communications Director, a Theatre Editor, a Comedy Editor, a Poetry Correspondent and an IT Consultant

** we’ve launched a weekly music Podcast

** we’ve built up a Twitter following in excess of 6,000

** we’ve published more than 900 articles

But we are not resting on our laurels. We have launched a weekly newsletter and have ambitious plans to expand across the whole of the North of England. We are working continuously to build on our success. We’d love it if you joined us on the journey.
