It’s a strange sight to see rows of people in their own homes clapping and laughing silently as you perform on Zoom or Facebook. ‘Mute Seals’ is one of the less attractive descriptions of the phenomena I recently heard.

I have Zoom fatigue. While the COVID-19 crisis has ensured that platforms like Zoom, Skype and WhatsApp are essential parts of our ‘new normal’, the idea of online drinks makes me lethargic. And while I am grateful to be able to communicate with loved ones, I only have to overhear housemate’s Zoom quizzes and I want to curl up, cat-like, under my duvet. Our digital social lives are exhausting and I feel frustrated by screen glitches and faces freezing mid-sentence.
