I’ve been a bit under the weather of late (who wouldn’t be in the year’s darkest, greyest months?). So a self-care retreat in the heart of Manchester was just the ticket.

From the moment I arrived at the Marriott Manchester Piccadilly Hotel, I was met with warmth and professionalism from the polite and welcoming staff at reception, the mezzanine and the lounge. Their attentiveness set the tone for a truly relaxing visit.

Their service went above and beyond – when I requested honey and salt at the bar on separate occasions, they promptly provided them without hesitation. With my sore throat demanding constant care, I found this small act of kindness incredibly thoughtful.

Meanwhile, on checking into my room on the seventh floor, I immediately noticed the cleanliness and inviting atmosphere. My deluxe king-size room was an oasis of space and luxury. Featuring a two-seater sofa, two lounge chairs, a table, TV, bath, and shower. As someone who stands at just 5’2”, I found myself delighting in the space.

The view from my room was unexpectedly engaging. Peering out onto the main road, the city lights in the darkness resembled fireflies dancing through the traffic, while distant skyscrapers created a striking skyline. The gentle hum of the city was present but never overwhelming – rather, it added a soft, ambient backdrop to my stay.

A highlight of my visit was the Blue Monday spa treatment demonstration in the mezzanine, an evening that proved both relaxing and informative. The next morning, after indulging in a breakfast buffet with a delightful spread – including a croissant filled with jam, fresh watermelon, and a soothing blend of ginger, lemon, and honey tea – I headed for my 10.30 am appointment with an Elemis therapist for a 25-minute facial treatment.

My therapist, Charlotte, was gentle, kind, and made me feel like an old friend. The treatment was deeply soothing and moisturising, a moment of pure relaxation where I truly sank into the experience. I only wish it had lasted longer.

To complete my wellness retreat, I spent time in the sauna and steam room, allowing my body a final moment of rejuvenation. It was the perfect way to end my stay, leaving me feeling refreshed and revitalised.

Marriott Manchester Piccadilly Hotel provided not just a place to rest, but a fully-fledged retreat. With its exceptional service, luxurious rooms, and indulgent spa experiences, it was exactly the self-care getaway I needed. Whether you’re looking for relaxation, a touch of luxury, or simply a warm and welcoming stay, this hotel delivers on all fronts.
