The winners of the prestigious New Light Art Prize have been announced at the opening of the prize exhibition at the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum in Birkenhead.
Experts, enthusiasts, curators and art gallery owners joined together for the opening of the exhibition where 100 of the shortlisted artists waited in anticipation for the results.
The biennial New Light Art Prize shines a light on Northern artists, celebrating the immense talent that the region has to offer. The winners, who are from Northumberland, Cheshire, Yorkshire and Lancashire, were chosen from thousands of entries. Along with 121 shortlisted artists, the winners will have their work featured in a 14-month long exhibition which takes in the length and breadth of the country, including stints at Bankside Gallery in London, Rheged arts centre in Penrith, The Biscuit Factory in Newcastle, Mercer Art Gallery in Harrogate, and The Williamson Art Gallery & Museum in Birkenhead where it runs until December 22, 2023.
