WIN A PAIR OF TICKETS TO THE MANCHESTER JAZZ FESTIVAL
Northern Soul has teamed up with Manchester Jazz Festival (mjf) to offer two readers the chance to win a pair of triple tickets each to the final afternoon concerts at the Thwaites Festival Pavilion in Albert Square on Sunday, August 9, 2015. This triple bill features Natural Causes, the Shama Rahman Band and the Airelle Besson Quartet.
Celebrating its 20th festival this year, mjf is Manchester’s longest running music festival and the leading festival for contemporary jazz in the UK. 79 gigs with over 400 artists in 10 venues for 10 music-filled days.
The final festival afternoon line-up offers some relaxing sounds.
Natural Causes, 1pm
Pianist Hugh Nankivell’s curious compositions have a distinct air of English eccentricity about them, taking inspiration from artists such as Robert Wyatt, XTX and Bjork.
Shama Rahman Band, 2.45pm
Sitar, stories and song weave together into original, playful music, drawing from Rahman’s Bangladeshi roots, childhood memories of Middle Eastern desert landscapes and encounters with London’s vibrant characters.
Airelle Besson Quartet, 4.30pm
Bringing mjf to a close, Besson – French Jazz Musician of the Year and winner of the Django Reinhardt Prize – is a fast-rising star on the French music scene. A moving finale to mjf 2015 – be transported by music of astonishing spirituality and beauty.
